I had an aha moment yesterday when I was putting together a gift. I have a tendency to try to make things look “perfect,” I know unrealistic. My daughter wanted to help and added stickers, which immediately evoked the “ahh” reaction. After seeing the look on her face and truly listening to her, my “ahh” turned into an “aha.”
My need for perfection is has no place in the world of parenting. In fact, by listening to my daughter I realized encouragement, cultivation and imagination need to replace this need all together.
So here’s how the gift turned out, more beautiful because she felt like she was a part of creating it.
