So on day two of our “purging our home” marathon, my husband and I tackled all our clothes. We pulled out every piece of clothing and started sorting. Let the clothing cleanse begin! Over the years our clothes have migrated between our double wardrobe, a dresser and a second closet.
A pile of fabrics and colors cover our carpet, and it’s very, very eye-opening. My husband found 10 pairs of the same color pants…TEN! Most of my athletic socks were ventilated on the heels. We looked and handled every piece and made a conscious decision for each one. The donation pile grew and grew while the “keep” pile reflected our favorite items. If you’ve started reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, then you know we ended up keeping the items that brought us joy.
The forgotten items that where stuffed away at the bottom of the drawers, covered under the clutter or hidden in another closet where finally being cleansed from our home. By the end, that second closet was clear and we still had a couple of drawers that were now completely empty.
What I learned by day two?
- I need new socks, but I will wait until this whole purge project is done.
- When your clutter is spread throughout different areas, it’s hard to tell what you have and what you really need.
- We don’t need more storage, we just need less stuff.
