When I first developed the Mom2Mom Inspired Hawaii blog, my daughter was already 4 years old. She was getting ready to transition into preschool. Once she got started, I had a full day to dedicate to building the site while she was off learning new things. Almost 4 years later I step back and see an awesome community. Now with a 1 year old at home, I find it’s time for me to shift gears. Some of the changes may take a while for some of you to adjust to, but I’m hoping you hang tight during the transition.
My end goal is to be able to provide a site that offers frugal living/creative savings tips that everyone can relate to. I told Tina that the proverb “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” has been really sticking with me the past few weeks. I think I strayed from that thinking. So what are the changes?
After the first quarter contributing to the Favado App, I’ve decided that it was very time consuming and not creating the results I had hoped. I usually spend 12 hours working on the 3 lists that I contribute (Target, Safeway and Longs) along with the hours spent on match ups that weren’t provided on the app. The change will be effective as of 05/01/2015. The Favado team does not plan to replace me with another contributor at this time, so that means there will no longer be any Hawaii based lists on the app.
Coupon Match Ups
It took me a long time to decide what I was planning on doing in this area. I set aside approximately 20 hours per week to work on the blog. Majority of that time is being used for coupon match ups. Starting from May 2015 I will be listing only the top deals from each of these stores: Safeway, Foodland, Times, Target, Walgreens and Longs Drugs. My goal is to use the hours that are now freed up to work on articles that help in many areas of your budget.
Categories That Will Be Growing
Now that I’ve overwhelmed you with the areas I’ll be cutting back, let’s focus on how Mom2Mom Inspired Hawaii will be changing for the better. The content on the site will be fine tuned to help others in all areas of their budget not just coupons & grocery shopping. We are going to start looking at the bigger picture, our budget concerns as a whole. So the creative savings/finance category will be updated weekly. I’m hoping you will all chime in on areas you are concerned about. That way we can keep the content relevant.
Meal planning has also been a reader favorite. I’m hoping with more writing hours freed up, we can work together to create an awesome list of meal ideas when certain products are on sale.
Last but not least our Pay It Forward category. This is one area that Tina and I are very proud of when we do get the opportunity to work on it. Sharing stories whether they are our own or one of yours is always inspiring. So this will definitely have to be revamped as a regular feature.
What to expect?
I am refocusing on being a reader driven site. The growing topics that I mentioned earlier, are the ones that I am most passionate about and it seems you are too. The goal is that one day coupon match ups will be unnecessary all together. How? Well, with more informative and educational posts on creative savings you won’t need them. It doesn’t matter if you are a new or regular reader, there will be something for everyone.
Thank you so much for being a part of the Mom2Mom Inspired Hawaii community! We hope you hang out and support us through the change.
