It’s been almost 7 months since I first started organizing my home using the KonMari Method. It started with the purge, which we took on as a family. Over time I realized every single dresser, from our toddlers to ours, consistently became a jumble of clothing. In order to end the madness, I decided to try a new method I had read about in The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Learn how to organize your dresser without spending a dollar.
First stop, search YouTube for KonMari folding tutorials. Yes, I needed a tutorial on folding clothes…
After watching the How to Fold playlist, by Lavendaire, I hit the laundry room to begin the transition. Initially I thought, this is going to take me 2-3 times longer. I was filled with self-doubt about my decision thinking I’ve been folding clothes the way my mother taught me a few decades ago, how am I going to change. Enter reality…it took a few attempts, but I got it. After I got the concept down, it was easy. It didn’t take me any longer.
So, off I went going through each drawer. It took me about a day to clean out, re-fold and then organize all four dressers. I have to say it’s been 48 hours and two loads of laundry later and the drawers look exactly the same. Some of you may completely understand how AMAZING that truly is.
Without spending a single dollar on dresser organizers, I’d have to say that the KonMari folding style has been a success. After one week, the drawers have stayed tidy. My husband and daughter are notorious for messy dressers. It takes one change of clothing for the folded stacks to turn into chaotic piles of crumpled fabrics. So I am absolutely surprised and impressed that after one whole week they still look like this.
