Am I saving money? This year my kids have been bringing home lunch daily as the price of school lunch keeps increasing. As I was preparing lunch one night, I pondered if I was really saving money.
So I itemized the lunch I was preparing. I only calculated the portions they ate. For example, they only ate half the pasta that I cooked so I divided the price in half. (We’ll eat the rest of the pasta salad for another meal.) I also used a coupon to purchase it.
Pasta 0.22 (0.44)
Pear FREE (Was given to us)
4.01 / 4 kids = $1.00
It came out to $1.00 per lunch. School lunch cost $2.25, so we are saving money by packing lunches! Even if I paid $0.50 for each pear, I would still be saving money.
Here is what they took this week
Monday Chicken Sand on Bun, Grapes, Cheez Its
Tuesday Pizza Bread (Bun, Sauce, Cheese), Cheez Its
Wednesday Pasta Salad, Bun, Pear
Thursday Hot Dog on Bun, Crackers, Banana
Friday Nutella Sandwich, Side Pasta Salad, Apple
