Yesterday I got the phone call from my husband that he was headed home. After nearly 10 years of service, he was making his way home due to company downsizing. Unfortunately, this isn’t a unique situation in our economy. The phone call was short but definitely set the tone for the rest of the day. So how do you survive when you get laid off?

Let me get back to that phone call real quick. How we communicated in those few minutes showed us how far we had come as a married couple. After 14 years of marriage, he could hear that on the other end of the line was a wife that would welcome him home with open arms. If you’re reading this and you’re “their person” (Yes, I love Grey’s Anatomy), then get ready to be supportive and encouraging.
There’s no sugar coating it, there’s going to be some changes and challenges, but it’s not all going to be resolved in one day. So take a moment to breathe. We decided for the rest of the day, we were just going to enjoy some family time with kids. After all, you can’t change the situation at that moment, but we can change how we handle it.
