There are situations that will occur in our lives that are entirely out of our control. Sometimes it’ll be so abrupt that it rattles us. And there are other times where the most difficult thing to do is admit we created the challenges. Yes, we handed ourselves those proverbial lemons. Whether it’s full financial overhauls, crumbling marriages or addiction there was a starting point. Even after that defining moment, there were probably a few times that your inner voice screamed “slow down, think it through.” So when the lemons come flying in at full speed, what do you do?
About 5 years ago I probably would’ve created more issues in the process of trying to resolve the current ones. I would attack every challenge at once, get overwhelmed and fall [usually really hard]. I’ve slowly learned how to deal and cope with one focus at a time. Some might be more effective the other way around, multi-tasking and conquering. My husband is more like that, I truly think it’s because of our personalities. I think this is where so many of us get tangled. You have to acknowledge your weaknesses and utilize your strengths.
As for lemons that life throws at us make lemonade, lemon meringue pie [YUM!] or lemon bars. Do what works for you! As for the ones we hand ourselves…well, harness your strengths and stop handing them out.
