This month we are going to discuss the four happy parts that balance us out! The four happy parts include the body, mind, heart, and soul. The series from the book, 7 Habits for Happy Kids, is such a great resource to teach kids and ourselves alike! This week I am going to expand on the how to balance the body — sharpening the saw.
If you’re like me, every now and then we just have a rough week. Just a gloomy, tiring kind of week. The sun isn’t shining because those gray clouds are in the way and they just make you want to go back to bed for the day. Though No, don’t cringe at the word! I know, I know, I know… we all talk about it but never do it. Start small! Even though it may be a cloudy day, get out for a leisurely walk. Each day you can increase your pace and distance. Exercise gives you more energy which in turn will help you balance yourself with your mind, heart, and soul.
Let’s Start With Exercise
No, don’t cringe at the word! I know, I know, I know… we all talk about it but never do it. Start small! Even though it may be a cloudy day, get out for a leisurely walk. Each day you can increase your pace and distance. Exercise gives you more energy which in turn will help you balance yourself with your mind, heart, and soul.
But the donut looks so good! I didn’t say you had to deprive yourself, but if you know you’re not eating the right foods your body needs, then it’s time to do sometime about it! Use the food pyramid for a good example to go by. Click here for the kids “choose my plate”. Here is the link is for the recommended adult pyramid.
Sleep and Rest
Making sure our bodies get enough sleep is key to our well-being. Doctors recommend ages 3-6 need 10-12 hours of sleep each night. Kids 7-12 years old do best with 10 or 11 hours of sleep. Adults should be getting a good 8 hours of sleep. Please remember that each person is different. I know quite a few kids who only require 9 hours of sleep and very energized. I also know a couple that only needs 13 hours of sleep to feel rested. This is just a recommended time.
Lay in a hammock, relax in a chair by the pool, do something that allows your body to just relax. If you have had an exuberant day, enjoy a bubble bath and a glass of wine. If you prefer to do relaxing activities as a family, try these!
Leveling yourself out in each of the four happy parts will allow you to sharpen the saw and feel your best! This post may contain affiliate links, please review my disclosure policy .
